"Last Night On Earth" is a song performed by British recording artist Coral Harris. It was written by Harris with Dr.Luke producing the track, along with Coral. The song serves as the first single from her debut studio album, The English Rose. The song has been highly anticipated due to the fact Coral had previously featured on three highly succesful singles and released a download single in late 2011. Throughout 2012, details were revealed about the solo single, but it wasn't until April 21 that the title was revealed. The song was also the first ever single released on Coral's new label, Next Generation Records. The song became a big success in the UK, where it debuted at #2 giving Coral her first ever solo hit and was certified platinum.

Background[edit | edit source]

Coral's first glimse of chart success came in November 2012 when she released her download only single "Hard Shoulder" which went straight in at #2 on the download chart. Following this, Coral became very in demand, appearing on singles by 8-BIT ("The Haze"), Ruby and the Gems ("Guy Like You") and INTOXICATED ("Toyboy"), with enormous success, particularly with "Guy Like You" hitting the #1 spot. After this success, Coral finally felt she had made enough of a name for herself to ensure she could launch a big career, and decided it was finally time to launch her debut.

Release and reception[edit | edit source]

The song is to be released May 21, 2012 after several delays. It recieved it's world wide premiere on Radio 1 on Thursday 3 May, on the Chris Moyles Show. The single recieved a strong response from fans and critics. Many complimented the fact Coral was able to sing her chorus' like a true 'superstar in the making', yet she also deliver her rap breakdowns like a critic loving demon.

One review stated "Coral Harris grabbed everyone's attention when she first released her download single back in late '11, and since then she has only climbed up the ranks by featuring on some killer tunes. But now it's time this 22 year old stops sharing the spotlight and becomes the star with her debut single 'Last Night On Earth'.

There is a real superstar feel to this track as it was penned by this power package, who seems to effortlessly give slickness to the track. With the talent this young star has shown in her first solo 3 minutes, there's only one way she's going - and that's all the way up"

The song was performed live on the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, with an accoustic performance on 10 May. Coral also performed the Paloma Faith single "Picking Up The Pieces".

Music video[edit | edit source]

The video was filmed in a studio in LA on February 15, 2012. On May 14, it premiered on 4music.

The video begins with blackness. A light gently lights up and shows Coral's face very briefly. before it shows a scene above a desert as a shooting star flies across the sky. Coral sings to the camera, with a simple background. However as she reaches the chorus, an explosion of stars, and intergalactic flowing lights appears from behind her. The shooting star that was seen earlier on is shown again, this time leaving Earth. Coral is still shown singing with the coloured background. The camera zooms out a bit showing Coral in more of a full body shot, with the colourful background. Also that pesky shooting star is shown again, this time travelling through space. For the middle 8 rap-breakdown, Coral is shown with some grey and white backgrounds, as the camera does some interesting actions. As the video begins to come to an end, the star is shown for the last time, shooting away into the distance past some planet. The song ends and the lights that have been surrounding Coral throughout the video get stronger, as they submerge into her.
