Ruby & The Gems (Born Ruby Stephingham on Jan 3rd 1989) is a young female singer from the UK.

Ruby Rebecca Stephingham was born in 1989 in Glasgow, Scotland. Her ambition from a young age was to become a selling artist. Before her rise to fame, the singer attended Sylvia Young school in London after moving to the city centre at the age of 10. After getting qualifications and being released into the working world, she worked independently and worked with a close friend to create her 'Running Away EP' which was her first experience recording music. After the release of this on her MySpace, approximately 250 copies were sold and she toured university campuses with her music. She had a little recognition after appearing on the X Factor at 17 years old.

After her small tour, she was picked up by Fusion Records in 2009. They worked together to create her first album Secret.

2010-2011 - Secret[edit | edit source]

In December 2010, Ruby released her long-awaited debut single 'Running Away'. The track was one from her first solo EP, Runaway and was decided the best song to boost her career. The track was released on 13th December 2010 and debuted at #10 on the URAPS singles chart before rising to #7 the following week.

Ruby has worked with a number of producers on the album, such as Starsmith, RedOne and Stargate. Her debut album, Secret, released on 24th January 2011 was a huge success with fans from her previous career move and was NME's 'Best upcoming artist album'.

The second and final single from the album was "Loser" which reached #7 on the URAPS Singles charts, eventually selling over 150K. Despite choosing it as the second single, Ruby claims it wasn't her favourite song. "The fans loved it, but I wasn't keen on it" She told DigitalSpy "It was just another typical 'Ex boyfriend' that's been done hundreds of times before".

2011 - Radio[edit | edit source]

Ruby released the lead single and title track of her second album " Radio" on May 2nd 2011. The song charted at #9 on the singles charts. It was said to be the introduction for a new, more up-tempo sound for Ruby as all songs on the previous album, Secret were more calmed down and acoustic. Radio was more focused on the backing track than the actual lyrics, which some fans were disappointed with.

The second single after Radio was War Zone, which reached Ruby's highest ever position of #3 in the charts. The song was dancey, and new fans were picked up from the release. This was set to be the start of a new beginning.

2012-present - Warrior - The Warrior Tour - Personal Life[edit | edit source]

In December 2011, Ruby's younger brother came to the media's attention, due to being in the boyband Difused, who are currently experiencing great success. In January 2012 Ruby revealed that the lead single from her third studio album would be titled "Warrior" which is due for release. This was one of Ruby's wisest moved to date, as the sound mixed both her storytelling lyrics with a catchy, electronic like beat. The song did well in the charts and opened Ruby's new era. The second single was titled "Guy Like You" and featured Grime artist Coral Harris. It became Ruby's first number one.

In late June 2012, Ruby toured with her album. She sold out 13 dates which were all arenas. Ruby also had her own TV series documenting the progress on the tour. The programme, titled, '[[Behind The Scenes : The Warrior Tour]',only had 2 episodes. The first episode was the tour rehearsals, and the second episode was the concert itself. The program was aired on Sky Living and Sky Living HD. The tour sold out overall after visiting nearly all cities in the country and Ireland.

In late June, Ruby announced her split with Jackson Bradshaw after Ruby was connected with Sean Cotes of Jetfire. Following this new relationship, she appeared on a track for Jetfire's self-titled debut album "Jetfire" titled "Please".

The final single announced from Warrior was Waiting, this reached number one again, giving Ruby her second time at the top spot. It opened with sales of 100k plus - being a massive score for the singer.

Late 2012-2013[edit | edit source]

Ruby has confirmed that she will be re-releasing her hit seller of an album, Warrior with 8 new tracks and also a live CD of the tour. She also plans to release another three singles.
