"Need" is the debut single from American rock singer Jessica Snow. The song was the first and only single released from Jessica's cancelled debut album "Without You". It charted at #12 upon release but was quickly off the charts after only 3 weeks.

Background & Reception[edit | edit source]

"Need" was the first song that Jessica recorded for her debut album; written by James Moss and Victor Strong of Phoenix Rising, the song was written based on recollections Jessica had of a former boyfriend whom Jessica loved but he did not love her back. "Need" was the first of seven songs that was created in this way, with Jessica telling stories of her life to Phoenix Rising, and then recording the songs that they wrote based on her history. The song is a power ballad with an organic feel to it, with emphasis on the piano and string elements against the rock guitars. It was chosen to be the lead single by Jessica herself. Jessica's introduction to the industry was quiet; the minor reaction "Need" did receive was positive, but it was only as promotion for the single got going that Jessica and her single received wider notice. Jessica was hailed for the strength of her vocals and the power of the lyrics, and this helped buoy the single on the airplay charts. Being a newcomer, the single's initial performance on the chart was good, but when she was dropped by her manager, the success of the single was short-lived.

Music Video[edit | edit source]

A music video for "Need" was planned, but a director was never hired, and the video shoot was never booked. Scattered details of the video say that it was meant to be based around a wedding, with Jessica playing a jilted bride.

Chart Performance[edit | edit source]

"Need" debuted at #12 on January 31st, 2010 with sales of 31,258 copies. The initial success of the single was good, but Jessica was quickly dropped by her manager, and the song plummeted from the chart after only 3 weeks. On radio, the single fared respectably, peaking inside the top 20. On the download chart, the single peaked at #3, spending two weeks in the top 5 before dropping out. Although some sales data is missing, the single is known to have sold 22,500 digital copies. Due to its overall failure in the UK and the cancellation of the album, the single was not released in the US, although Jessica has currently been retained on RCA's artist roster.
