Background[edit | edit source]
Romo has recounted her experiences in the Canal Street nightclubs inspired several songs from the POPSTAR albums, including her 2008 single "Schizo Pop", based upon her encounters with several hardcore Jack Stevens and Jake fans. Her first visit back to the clubs following her breakthrough success was marked by turmoil because her visit was coldly received by the clientele, who saw her as a "disgrace" to pop music and Manchester. Romo based "Yesterday I Dreamed I Was Famous" on that experience: "They didn't like me being there because of my persona, because of how they felt 'Schizo Pop' caused Jack and Jake's downfall, and how they felt I was just an overall horrendous role model. I did some soul searching that day and realized at the same time I'm going through that you have people wanting to be in my shoes. I thought, why the fuck would people want to be famous if this is the price of fame."
Promotion[edit | edit source]
