The thirteenth season/edition of URAPS Idol (officially known as Urapopstar Idol 13; also known as URAPS Idol 13, Uraps Idol 2012, and Urapopstar Idol 2012) premiered on 4 August 2012 on ITV1. Urapopstar Idol 13, such as the previous season, is produced by BBW, a company owned by Syd Wolfe, who returns as lead judge for the show.

Producers for the show revealed that a number of changes would be implented for Urapopstar Idol 13 by noting that "everything has changed". Unlike previous season, the current season has three stages to the competition which are auditions, battle rounds, and lives. It was also announced that a new judging panel would be in effect as well, which would consist of four people. In the audition rounds, contestants would be put on teams of each of the four judges providing that they had been selected by one or more of the judges. If they were at least selected by one judge, the contestant would automatically go on that team. If they were selected by two or more judges, the contestant would get to choose which judge's team he or she would like to be on. In a press release statement which revealed the changes to show also revealed that alongside with Wolfe serving as lead judge, Calvin Andrews, Aurora Reed, and Jackson Bradshaw would also be on the judging panel. American actresses Tia and Tamara Mowry would serve as hosts for the show, a decision that surprised some but was also met with praise as well.

Auditions began on 24 July 2012 at the o2 Arena in London, England where more than 19,000 people turned up to audition. Auditions were also held in Manchester, Glasgow, and other cities in the UK, as well in Belfast, Ireland.

The show premiered on 4 August 2012 to high raitings and rave reviews from critics and fans, who praised the changes made to the show and the judging panel for the season. However, due to the "slow-down" of the music industry in the autum of 2012, which caused a sudden wave of "inactivity", ratings for the show steadily began to decline, reportedly becoming a great concern to Wolfe. On 15 September 2012, producers of the show, including Wolfe, and ITV1 announced that show would go into hiatus and would be temporarily taken off the air. Initially, the show was supposed to run for ten weeks from August to September 2012. Instead, the show will possibly return in November 2012.
