SHY are an ubran, R'n B group, whose member consist of Aisha La'Verne, Tansy Hawkins and Sireya Wilson-We

History[edit | edit source]

2003 - 04: Formation and Circles[edit | edit source]

Forming in 2003, SHY consisted of 4 members Taryn Bennett, Thalia Bennett and Aisha La'Verne. (The 4th member of SHY was never named) all girls were talented and gifted singers and rappers, who used to busk on the streets and enter local talent quests. During the winter of 2003, all three girls were introduced to a label boss at Roc Nation and signed the same day. The girls went into the studio immediately and by summer had a full album ready for release.

In the summer of 2004 "She Got Game/Dumb" was released world wide on the 4/7/04, taking both a warm response in the U.S and U.K, entering at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #16 on the U.K charts respectively. The girls career's began to skyrocket in America and to ensure more success in the U.K were based there for a few months and during the release of their second single "Kick Him to The Kerb" ft. MC Labels was released 10/10/04 entering #14 on the Billboard hot 100 and #20 in the U.K charts.

2005 & Hiatus[edit | edit source]

As the new year came in, rumours began to circulate that Taryn had quit the group, due to the strain of working from the U.K. It turned out the she was pregnant and decided to take on the role of mother.

Kenya Stone from California and also a well known studio singer had been penciled in to join the group. A re-recorded version of the album "Circles" was produced and a new single were planned, but Thalia placed the band on an indefinite hiatus after her split from Fifth Element member Cody Case.

2006 - 08: Ain't It Funny and Third Line-up[edit | edit source]

In late 2006, Aisha La'Verne had decided the hiatus SHY had been placed on went long enough. Making contact with both Taryn and Thalia, she asked if they wished to reform. Both declined the opportunity at first, only for Thalia to re-join the project a week later. Kenya was not asked to rejoin. Among all this both Aisha and Thalia parted ways with their management team,(Responsible for stars Fifth Element and Ivy) signing up with the same management team behind stars Mikaire and Dalisay.

Early 2007 saw Aisha and Thalia joined by new comer Laya Richards and annouced their comeback. Singer Ivy supported the girls, by writing them the song "Ride With Me" which was released 8/4/07. Troubles still plauged the girl group, seeing the song flop at a low #25 on the U.K Top 20 and even lower on the Billboard Hot 100. The girls stated they had "gone in too fast and had no clue what they were doing"

This didn't dishearten the girls and by June the girls had come back with a new single "One For Envy" which gave the girls their first top 10 hit in the U.K and on the Billboard Hot 100. Reeling with good success the the girls took some time off to finish their second album.

By November a third single and the album were ready for release. Nightwalker was released on the 11/11/07, followed by the album a week later. Nightwalker didn't generate as much hype as it's predecessor and only enter the charts at #11, however, their album came at more critical acclaim and saw the girls hit #6 with their album "Ain't It Funny"

The last single from the album was "Gangster Boy" which was released in the summer of 2008 and didn't live up to much hype at all, charting at #18.

The girls took the rest of the year off to work on new material, before announcing, what would end up being their last single with Thalia and Laya in the line up, "I'll Show You" which saw the girls take out their highest singles charting position at #7.

2009 - Split[edit | edit source]

In mid 2009 the trio announced their next single and album. The announcement was met with much hype. A week later, via Facebook, Aisha La'Verne announced she had left SHY, due to the fact she did not trust, nor like the direction in which the group was heading:

"Due to the fact that too much unreliability, trust issues and plain rudeness have caused me to make the decicion to leave SHY. This comes after much deliberation, but working with two people who do not share the same visions as I do has become too much to bare. I wish both Thalia and Laya luck on what they decide to do."'

It was later revealed Aisha had become fed up with Thalia's erratic behavior.

Thalia and Laya carried on as a duo for the remainder of 2009 and early 2010 until they held open auditions to recruit a replacement for Aisha. However, after the replacement was chosen Thalia released this statement:

"Aisha and I worked very closely, together for the past 7 years and after extensive auditions to have a new member join, I felt it would be rather shameless to try write Aisha out. Instead, after talking it over between myself, Laya and our management, we've decided it'd be best if we were not to continue on."

2012: Reformation[edit | edit source]

April 9, 2012 saw a picture surface online of 3 hands holding a tin can. Although speculation was that Thalia, Laya and Aisha would be returning to SHY, this was quickly denied by Thalia's Reps.

April 10, 2012 former member of SHY Thalia confirm that they would be making a comeback. It was also confirmed that she would not be taking part in this formation of SHY along with former member Laya, however Aisha would be carrying on with two new members.

On May 12th, 2012 the two new members were announced as Sireya Wilson-Wu and Tansy Hawkins.

Line-up changes[edit | edit source]

Many of the groups problems came from their inability to keep a single line-up for a long period of time.

2003-04[edit | edit source]

The group started originally started out with 4 members, however before the girls released publicly the 4th member walked. Her identity was never disclosed. The line up consisted of Thalia Bennett, Aisha La'Verne and Taryn Bennett. It would be Taryn to cause the first line up change, leaving to become a mother in the new year of 2004.

2004-05[edit | edit source]

This would be the second line up of SHY and in fact the least successful. Although new member Kenya Stone would re-record old singles and the current album with the girls the whole project was shelved after Thalia placed the band on a hiatus in 2005, after discovering she was pregnant. No single or album was released with Kenya, in fact she only filled in for public appearances.

2006 - 2010[edit | edit source]

This would become the third line up change of the group and the most successful with 3 top ten hits and album. Laya Richards would become SHY's new member after Kenya was not asked to rejoin the group. While being the most successful version of SHY it was the most troubled plagued with Thalia becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol, becoming a home wrecker and ended up in jail. Aisha would eventually leave the band in 2009, while Thalia and Laya continued on until 2010 without a replacement. A new member was hired to fill Aisha's place, however after much deliberation Thalia would leave the band in 2010, causing the official SHY split.

2012 - Present[edit | edit source]

2012 saw Aisha buy the rights to the SHY name from Thalia and regroup the band. Two new members have been drafted in, as Thalia now has her own successful solo career and Laya has moved on to the porn industry. The two new members haven't officially been named, however rumoured to be Juanita Sillerio and Faith Richardson.
