Dana Shannon Breckenridge is an Australian-born American pianist and guitarist and is a member of the indie pop band Curriculum and has been ever since its formation in 2006.

Early life[edit | edit source]

Breckenrige was born on 29 October 1991 in Melbourne, Australia to American parents who were living there at the time of his birth. He is the youngest of this parent's five children; he also as a younger half-sister by his father who was born during his parent's three-year long separation. His parents never owned a home throughout most of his childhood, choosing to live the "non-commitment to property" lifestyle as they describe it. They often lived in hotels and spent of their time in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Canada. The family eventually settled down in New York City, New York in 2004. Breckenridge was raised in a wealthy family and both of his parents are heirs to massive fortunes from their respective parents and socialites as well.

Breckenridge's parents were loving, caring, and affectionate towards their children but were also known to be obsessed and overprotective of them all as well. Since Dana was their youngest child, his parents were more overbearing and obsessed with him than the others since he was "the baby of the family". Breckenridge's parents were never abusive to him nor his siblings; however, his father had an obsessive tendancy to "affectionately" bite Breckenridge and his siblings on the head, fingers, feets, and earlobe while his mother had a strange obsession with his mouth and always tried to find ways to make me cry mainly because she "found it soothing" and that "it sounded like he was singing melodically when he cried". His siblings, who were all more than fifteen years older than him, loved him dearly but were also obsessed with Breckenridge and also tried to find ways to make him cry so they could laugh at him especially when they were bored. This would have a profound affect on his personality as he grew older and throughout most of his childhood, adolescence, and even at current times during his early adulthood, he was (and still is) known to burst into tears and cry for mostly no reason at all. Despite having a close, caring, and loving relationship with his parents and siblings, Breckenridge would grow to also fear them all as well. Breckenridge also has a "half-sister", who is actually his cousin from his paternal uncle who gave her up at a young age and "only" to Breckenridge's father (and not his mother for some odd reason) to raise; his mother would also help raise the girl anyway.

Career[edit | edit source]

Breckenridge co-founded Curriculum alongside with Gregory Preston Athanasiadis, Phillip Mandelbaum, and Wyatt van Cleef in 2006. In February 2012, they released their debut album, Syllabus, which reached #1 in the UK.
